New to West Virginia? New to Jefferson County? Or simply looking for something fun to do? There is more than one reason to call this state Wild and Wonderful. There are many year-round activities as well as summer fun to be held right here in your backyard.

Everyone in the DC Metro area has heard of the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and Slots but we’re here to reveal a few of the lesser known attractions in this charming historic town. The Farmer’s Market has local vegetables, fruits, pastries, and crafts. You can find these tasty treats every Saturday on S Samuel St between Washington St and Congress St. Downtown offers many boutiques and restaurants, locally owned and catering to the small-town crowd.

For the reader over 21-years-old, Bloomery Plantation Distillery off of Charles Town Rd/Rte 115 offers sweetshine tastings and live music. Paddy’s, on Liberty St, offers a taste of Irish cuisine right here in West Virginia and practically guarantees a fun time. Locust Hill and Sleepy Hollow golf courses offer your choice of a relaxing or competitive atmosphere. Third Thursdays and the first annual West Virginia Day Festival also promise fun activities.

Harpers Ferry National Park and Historic Bolivar are nationally known and attract tourists and adventurers alike. Stores selling handmade ice cream, historic tours and gift shops line the streets. Tourists can see the Armory where John Brown sparked the Civil War and, up the street, the John Brown Wax Museum detailing his plight. The C&O Canal and Maryland Heights are right across the walking bridge and offer views of the convergence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers.

For history buffs and hikers alike, Jefferson Rock offers a beautiful scene “worth a voyage across the Atlantic" according to Thomas Jefferson himself. For those seeking more than history, Harpers Ferry offers Ghost Tours year-round.

Historic Shepherdstown hosts the County’s only college, Shepherd University, where fans can watch the Division II Rams. Cress Creek Golf Course offers another relaxing option. The streets of Shepherdstown offer eclectic and charming boutiques and seasonal festivals.
